Databases search Watermark Twins
This is part of the submitted UseCaseList.
Scenario
Each mould belongs to a pair of moulds. So “watermarks a twins” (Allan Stevenson). In a ream of paper there are sheets produced with both moulds in a proportion nearly 50:50. In the printed Piccard these twins are signed with letter “A” resp. “B” (cf. e.g. “Wasserzeichen Hand und Handschuh”, no. 31 and 32, 42, and 48, 51 and 54, 59 and 60, 71 and 75...) Obviously this is a very important relation. User should be able to search for those twins.
Importance
How important do you see this use case as?
Dependencies
What other use cases are affected by the implementation of this one?
Input
Things that the user must/might supply to the system.
- [Mandatory] Input Description
- Question: Does there exist an “A” resp. “B” case corresponding with a specific watermark described in one of the databases
- Question: Please show all watermark tuples matching specific restrictions (watermark, time, region, paper grade etc.)
Output
Things that the user will receive in response to their request.
- negative report or
- both watermarks corresponding (image and character data)
- a list of tuples matching the criteria
Difficulties
Areas in which you foresee problems/issues arising.
- How to bring together tuples in two different databases?
Example
An example supporting this use case.
- See above Piccard examples
Other Information
Any other information that you think is important to include.
- You have much better chances to find these watermark twins in manuscript than in printed books, caused by the specific way how to write in a scriptorium and how to print in a printers' shop.
